Fighting for Families

Stand with Remington Workers!

On October 26, 2020, more than 600 Ilion, New York workers from Remington Arms were laid off.

The Ilion plant reopened in April of 2021 and more than 200 UMWA members have been called back to work. Negotiations for a new collective bargaining agreement are underway.

However, the fight is not over! Severance payments owed by old Remington remain in dispute in the bankruptcy court. UMWA lawyers are continuing to fight for what you are owed!\

Call Remington at 315-269-0745.

Tell them to live up to their obligations!

If you are a former Remington employee that is a member of the bargaining unit and received a proof of claim form in the mail from the Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Alabama in Case No. 20-81688-CRJ-11 in relation to your termination on or after October 26, 2020 (non-retirees), please be advised that the UMWA will file a proof of claim on your behalf with respect to all claims that arise from the collective bargaining agreement. Therefore, if your claim is for separation pay, accrued vacation, health benefits, or any other related claim under the agreement, then you do not need to file an individual proof of claim to protect your interest. However, if you have a claim that does not arise under the collective bargaining agreement (such as a workers’ compensation claim or personal injury claim), then you will need to file a proof of claim by December 10, 2020, to preserve your interest in that claim.

Remington refusal to pay severance to terminated workers is a “slap in the face”

“If they think they can get away with this without a fight from the UMWA they had better think again. Our members in Local Union 717 earned those benefits. We are going to do everything we can to ensure that they get them, and then continue working to get the plant reopened under new ownership as soon as possible.”

UMWA’s Roberts urges Bankruptcy Court to keep Remington jobs in Ilion

“Americans have seen far too many of their jobs shipped out of the country, we do not want that to happen here yet again. We are watching this very closely, and hope that the Remington facilities are sold to someone who will keep the Ilion plant open and operating in the United States.”
