“The UMWA is always there to back you up if you have an issue. Unions protect your job, they help you get raises and benefits. The UMWA helps workers in all positions, not just miners but also public employees like myself. All jobs need to have a union to protect you.” – Cindy Emlet, L.U. 2002
The unseen heroes of any city or county workforce is its 911 Emergency Dispatchers. Trained to handle crisis situations at all hours of the day, dispatchers must make lightening fast decisions that mean life and death to the members of their community. The United Mine Workers of America is proud to represent these workers.
Job security, adequate training, and reasonable scheduling are paramount concerns for these workers. Many work 12 hour shifts, during which they must be alert and ready at any time for when the emergency call comes in.
