International Auditor/Teller Emeritus Bob Burchell placed a wreath at the grave site of William Davis on behalf of the International Union. “This is a very important day. This is our history. This is who we came from,” said Cape Breton’s Miners Museum Executive Director Mary Pat Mombourquette. “These are the people responsible for the lives we have today. We are so thrilled to be able to get together again for this very special day when our community comes together.”

Canadian Labour Congress President Bea Bruske had the opportunity to tour CCS (Carbon, Capture, and Storage). “Bea is interested in this technology and wants to help us promote the technology in Ottawa,” said International Auditor/Teller Jody Dukart. “She recognizes the importance of what coal mining and power generation brings to the area for workers and organized labour and wants to help us keep that alive.” Jody and members of Sub-District 26 also took President Bruske out to the miner’s grave in Bienfait and explained the history of the 1931 Estevan Riot.

On April 28, 2022, Local Union 7607 organized a service on the National Day of Mourning to remember the lives lost, injured, or stricken with illness in the workplace in 2021. 31 names of workers from Saskatchewan who died from workplace-related incidents or illnesses were read and a candle was lit for each.
