58th Annual Robena Virtual Memorial Service

December 6, 2020 will mark the 58th anniversary of the tragic disaster that claimed 37 lives at the Robena No. 3 Mine, Frosty Run Shaft, United States Steel Corporation, Frick District Coal Division, Greene County, Carmichaels, Pa.

The importance of this event to these miners families and the UMWA has not gone unnoticed, unfortunately, this year we weren’t able to have the annual memorial event in person but that did to not stop us from remembering this tragic time.

52nd Annual Farmington Memorial Virtual Event

We know how much the Farmington Memorial Event means to the the miners families, the community and the UMWA. With that being said, we wont let the COVID-19 pandemic stop us from remembering the lives of the miners we lost.

“We would much rather be together on this day of remembrance,” UMWA International President Cecil E. Roberts said. “But it would be irresponsible to put so many people at risk of contracting COVID-19, especially elderly family members and others who come to this event every year.

“We will still honor those who lost their lives on that terrible day,” Roberts said, “and remember the determination that arose from that tragedy to ensure that something like this would never happen again.”

We want to thank Senator Joe Manchin for always being there for the United Mine Workers of America. Click here to read the copy of the letter sent in by the Senator to recognize this year’s Farmington Memorial Event.

Pass the Air Carrier Worker Support Extension Act!

UNION JOBS ARE AT RISK!

Call your US Senators at 888-848-4824 and tell them to pass Senate Bill 4634.

Call your US Representative at 888-907-9365 and tell them to pass House Bill 8345.

“Hello, I am a constituent calling to tell my (Senator/Representative) that aviation workers need a relief package before October 1 to stop mass job loss and cuts to small airports that also hurt veterans and other Americans who count on air service to get their medicines in the mail. Both parties and the White House are on record with overwhelming support for an extension to the Payroll Support Program for essential workers and to keep service in place to small communities. But words of support won’t keep us flying or help us pay our bills. We need a COVID-19 relief package with our payroll support passed TODAY. In [7] days we’re out of work and millions are hurting without this relief! Keep us connected to our jobs, paychecks, & healthcare. We are counting on you. Thank you.”

82nd Annual West Virginia Labor Day Celebration

This year marks the 82nd consecutive year the UMWA has celebrated Labor Day in Southern West Virginia. Though the current global pandemic has stopped us from rallying together in person, it will not stop us from recognizing those in the labor movement who have worked on behalf of our families and communities.

UMWA Labor Day 2020

Even though this has been a difficult year for working families, we want to recognize the strides labor has made through out the years and wish all of our UMWA members a Happy Labor Day!
