Senator Manchin (D-WV) opened up a colloquy on the Senate Floor on February 13, 2019 along with Senator Brown (D-OH), Senator Capito (R- WV), Senator Warner (D-VA) and Senator Casey (D-PA) to discuss the American Miners Act of 2019 introduced into the Senate.
This bill will make sure that 87,000 current beneficiaries and an additional 20,000 retirees who have vested won’t lose the pensions they have paid into for decades.

On July 13, 2018 the Joint Select Committee on Multi-Employer pensions met in Columbus, Ohio to discuss a solution to America’s Pension Crisis.
On July 12th, the UMWA, along with the Teamsters and the Bakery Workers, brought over 13,000 people to the Ohio State Capitol to remind Congress we will not stop fighting for the hard-earned pensions American Workers have earned and deserve.
The fight continued on July 13th with workers and supporters rallying outside the Ohio State Capitol during the hearing.
“Let me make sure you understand, the working person in America, the United Mine Worker and the people who have done the hard work, they’re not to blame. They didn’t set the rates of contribution, they didn’t set the plan, they didn’t establish the bankruptcy laws. It was all done here in Congress. We’ve set the slope of what would happen and this is what we’re dealing with now. None of this was their fault but they’re taking the hit right now. Every one of them,” Senator Manchin said.
