UMWA Calls for Passage of West Virginia Road Bond

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
OCTOBER 5, 2017

[CHARLESTON, W.VA.]. United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) International President Cecil E. Roberts issued the following statement today:

“West Virginians have a great opportunity to vastly improve our state’s transportation system while also helping the economy grow for everyone and hopefully provide job opportunities for thousands of workers across our state. And we can do all that without raising taxes on anybody. But that’s only if we pass the road bonds amendment this Saturday.

“Our transportation infrastructure has come a long way over the past several decades, but there is much more to do. Infrastructure improvements mean jobs – for road construction, for aggregate and cement plants, and even for coal miners as more steel is produced to build roads and bridges.

“The UMWA fully supports the roads bond, and encourages not just our members but working families across West Virginia to go to the polls on Saturday and vote Yes.”
