On July 16, 2024, members from the Anthracite Region of UMWA District 2 traveled to Triangle, Virginia, for a special visit to the United Mine Workers of America International Headquarters. The purpose of the trip was to meet directly with UMWA International President Cecil E. Roberts and to tour the building where much of the union’s national work is carried out.
During their visit, the members had the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions with President Roberts,
addressing key issues affecting miners in the region and exploring ways to strengthen the union’s efforts moving forward. Topics ranged from workers’ rights and safety to the broader challenges facing the coal industry and organized labor today.
In addition to the conversations, the group was given a guided tour of the headquarters, offering a closer look at the union’s rich history, its organizational structure, and the ongoing work being done to support UMWA members across the country.
