UMWA Support Key in Conor Lamb Victory

Conor Lamb’s March 13 upset victory in the Pennsylvania 18th Congressional District sent a message throughout America that UMWA members and all union members will vote for candidates who stand up for their pensions, their jobs and their unions.

The Lamb outcome demonstrated that a candidate’s party affiliation proved to be less important to active and retired union members than which candidate they believe is truly on their side. Lamb was outspoken in his support of issues important to union workers, especially including protecting their pensions.

Special Election Results in Trump County Give Democrats Hope

Until very recently, Bob Rogers, a retired coal miner in his seventies, thought his party was dead. Rogers, who flew Chinook helicopters in Vietnam before spending 43 years in the mines of western Pennsylvania, is a lifelong Democrat, but for a while now has worried that people like him had been forgotten by the party. “They were strong union supporters and they’ve just dropped the ball in that respect,” he says.
