Local Union Training Conference

Local Union Training Conference

United Mine Workers of America Contracts Department, in collaboration with the West Virginia University Institute for Labor Studies and Research (ILSR), has, for several years, conducted an annual training in the form of a special four-day summer school for UMWA Local Union representatives involved in grievance handling/contract enforcement.

The multi-day conference holds a series of classes covering topics such as:

 – Grievance Handling and Preparation

 – Labor Law and Unfair Labor Practices

 – Leadership Development

 – Current Events and the Labor Movement

– And a special presentation by the DOL Office of Labor-Management Standards: “Form Preparation and Filing Requirements”

The special presentation by DOL will be open to all participants and we highly recommend that all available Local Union financial secretaries attend.

All participants will receive a certificate of completion from the West Virginia University Institute for Labor Studies and Research.
