  • Miss Carbon County
Local Union 8622 member Sam Martino’s granddaughter, Skylynn Basso, competed in the 2024 Miss Utah Competition as Miss Carbon County. Her platform focused on coal mining and wearing gear worn by International District 22 Vice President Mike Dalpiaz. “This is the first time we have had a Miss Utah candidate be so passionate about coal mining history here in Carbon County,” said International District 22 Vice President Mike Dalpiaz. “We are thrilled to see young adults of the community keep this important history alive and we will do whatever we can to support them.”
