After the devastating floods across southern West Virginia in late June of this year, the labor community came together to assist families whose homes or businesses were damaged or destroyed. Union electricians and carpenters donated time to assist members of their communities. Others donated food, clothing, and other supplies. The UMWA donated $20,000 to American Red Cross and Southern Appalachian Labor School.
The West Virginia AFL-CIO started a flood disaster relief fund shortly after the disaster. Applications for assistance are now being accepted. Click here for an application. If you have any questions about the fund or want to donate, please go to their website or call 304-344-3557.
