It’s crucial not to be swayed by the enticing words of Management, as only a UMWA contract can provide the assurance of fixed pay, benefits, and workplace rights.
The company is promising a wage if you decert from the union…. but that’s all it is… an empty promise, that can be broken the second you lose your power of representation.
Before the implementation of a UMWA contract, Glancy Surface employees were forced to cover a $2,000 healthcare deductible! Because of the UMWA contract, that has decreased to $250.
Additionally, under the previous non-contract conditions, the company had unilateral authority to hire and dismiss at their discretion. Now, the employer is obligated to maintain the current workforce, honor panels of laid-off miners, and allow employees to file grievances for any contract violations.
