Private Prison Challenge

Fellow Officers,

As you are aware the fight to end private prisons in this nation has been one of our most important missions. Recently the FBOP stated they would not be renewing any private prison contracts within the federal system. However the states and counties did not follow suit.

We have long supported the idea of a constitutional challenge to prison privatization. That opportunity is upon us. Please read the following from our friend and Attorney John Dacey. We ask that you alert all your fellow Corrections Professionals to this effort. Put it on your facebook page and webpage and most important, donate to this cause. We often hear, “Im only one person how can I stop these huge corporations?” Here;s our chance.

Thank you

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

As some of you may know, I have been working on a campaign to challenge the constitutionality of private for-profit prisons. To do so it became necessary to create a fundraising campaign and I am happy to announce that that campaign went public today. Abolish Private Prisons, a 501(C)(3) tax-exempt Arizona nonprofit corporation, launched its website today at abolishprivateprisons.org. A team of dedicated volunteers has worked hard to get this effort off the ground. Please take a look around the website and consider helping us with a donation, by spreading the word via email and social media to others you think may support this cause, and by providing your contact information through the website for updates. Contributions will help fund staffing and bringing the legal challenge. The opposition will be enormous so we need to raise significant funding to bring the legal challenge. A crowd funding campaign will follow.

If you are in Phoenix, you can also learn more about this effort at Changing Hands Bookstore on the evening of November 16th. Here is the link: http://www.changinghands.com/event/november2016/john-dacey-abolishing-private-profit-prisons-new-slavery

Abolish Private Prisons will also work on other criminal justice issues but for now, Job One is taking the issue of prison privatization to the U.S. Supreme Court. We want that Court to declare it to be the law of the land that incarceration for profit is not just a terrible idea but it is unconstitutional and must be abolished throughout the United States.

Please Note: I am writing to you solely in my capacity as the volunteer Executive Director of Abolish Private Prisons. I am using my law firm email address as a convenience only for this message. I am not writing on behalf of the firm.

I hope you find this to be a cause worthy of your support. Thanks for your consideration.

John
