UMWA's Roberts sends letter to Reid and Pelosi calling for independent investigation of Crandall Canyon disasater

UMWA International President Cecil E. Roberts sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi today, calling on Congress to appoint "an independent, bi-partisan committee of coal mine safety experts to investigate the Crandall Canyon disaster."
 
The reason for this call for an independent investigation, Roberts said is that, "I do not believe the American public and our nations' coal miners will be well-served by another instance of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) investigating itself in this disaster."
